Not every couple dreams of a packed dance floor or a long guest list. For some, the perfect wedding day means escaping to the mountains, leaving distractions behind, and focusing entirely on each other. That's exactly what Chiati and Alex envisioned for their Kananaskis elopement.

When asked what mattered most, their answer was simple: "A seamless wedding day. We just wanted to take our time and enjoy the day. Us, our dog, and nature. We wanted the mountains to be as much a part of it as we were."

Surrounded by breathtaking mountain views, their beloved dog, and the quiet beauty of Kananaskis, they created a wedding experience that felt intentional, relaxed, and completely their own.

Their connection to Kananaskis ran deeper than its stunning views. Having spent countless hours hiking in the Rockies together, they knew these mountains were more than just a beautiful backdrop; they were part of their story. With their dog by their side and some of their favourite trails surrounding them, Kananaskis felt like the perfect place to begin their next chapter. Keep reading to see how they brought their vision to life and created an unforgettable mountain elopement.

The Story That Brought Them to Elope in Kananaskis

Like many great love stories, Chiati + Alex's began in an unexpected place: work. Chaiti had started about a month before Alex, and although they didn't speak much at first, everything changed when they discovered they were both from the same neighbourhood in Montreal. What started as simple conversations quickly grew into a meaningful connection. Chaiti was drawn to Alex's kindness and thoughtful nature, while Alex admired Chaiti's caring personality and unwavering support.

Their relationship didn't happen overnight. Between an eight year age gap and navigating cultural differences, there were conversations and challenges to work through before they fully embraced what they already knew deep down. Once they realized they couldn't imagine life without one another, everything seemed to fall into place.

Over the years, some of their favourite moments have been the simplest ones. Whether spending a day by the water, enjoying quiet moments together, cheering on the Montreal Canadiens, or exploring the outdoors, they always found joy in each other's company. One memory that still makes them laugh is a Habs game in Calgary where Chaiti, after a few drinks, confidently started chirping nearby Flames fans.

Their shared love of nature, creativity, and adventure naturally drew them to the mountains, where some of their favourite memories were made. While they haven't crossed oceans together just yet, they've spent countless hours exploring the Rockies and taking road trips, creating the kind of relationship that feels as effortless as Elvis Presley's Can't Help Falling in Love, the song they say best reflects their connection. With a love built on friendship, support, and countless adventures, it's easy to see why the mountains became the perfect place to begin their next chapter.

The Mountain Wedding Proposal That Started It All

Long before they exchanged vows in Kananaskis, the mountains had already played an important role in Chiati + Alex's story.

One October day, the couple made the drive to Wedge Pond in Kananaskis, a location Alex had mentioned visiting several times before. As luck would have it, they arrived just after the rain had passed, leaving behind calm waters, fresh mountain air, and dramatic views of the surrounding peaks. They spent time walking around the pond, taking in the scenery and enjoying a quiet day together with their dog, Dutch.

When they stopped to take photos, Alex pulled out a tripod so they could capture the moment with the mountains and pond in the background. Setting it up proved to be more challenging than expected, but after a few attempts, everything finally came together. As the camera rolled, Alex got down on one knee and asked Chaiti to marry him.

The proposal was everything they could have hoped for: simple, meaningful, and surrounded by the landscape they loved most. Adding to the memory was Dutch, who was completely focused on his own adventure nearby, repeatedly trying to retrieve a rock from the water with his head fully submerged. It was the perfect mix of romance, laughter, and the outdoors that had always been such a big part of their relationship.

Looking back, it's no surprise that the place where they became engaged would eventually inspire the setting for their wedding day. The mountains had been woven into their story from the beginning, making Kananaskis the perfect place to start their next chapter together.

The Day They Said "I Do" in the Mountains

On a beautiful fall day in September, Chiati + Alex set out for an intimate Kananaskis elopement that was completely focused on what mattered most to them: each other. With no guests in attendance, the couple exchanged vows surrounded by the mountain landscapes they love so much. Kananaskis holds a special place in their hearts, as it was where Alex proposed at Wedge Pond, making it the perfect setting to begin this next chapter together. Joined by their beloved dog Dutch, who looked adorable in his tiny tuxedo, the couple made their way to a scenic viewpoint for their ceremony. While Dutch was a little anxious and determined to stay close to his humans, even chewing through two leashes before the ceremony was over, his presence made the day feel even more meaningful.

As the sun began to set over the mountains, Chiati and Alex filled their day with personal touches that reflected who they are as a couple. They shared a champagne toast, relaxed together in a hammock while enjoying ice cream drumsticks, danced beneath the mountain skies, and captured stunning portraits surrounded by the beauty of Kananaskis. After their ceremony, they returned to Canmore, where they spent the evening cooking steaks and simply enjoying each other's company. From the thoughtful details to the incredible scenery, every part of the day felt authentic to who they are. It was a beautiful celebration filled with adventure, meaningful moments, and the kind of memories that will last a lifetime.
