Rooted in the Rockies: A Crossing at Ghost River Elopement

When wedding season arrives, the pressure to go big can feel loud. For Amanda and Kyle, it never did. The most meaningful celebrations are not about the size of the guest list. They are about gathering the right people. From the very start of this new chapter, they knew exactly who theirs were.
This was never just about the two of them. It was about bringing their families together in a place that felt meaningful and peaceful. They wanted the day to feel fun, easy, and romantic, and The Crossing at Ghost River felt like the perfect fit.
They fell in love with the option to exchange vows by the river, surrounded by the quiet movement of the water and the stillness of the trees. With so much of their family travelling from out of town, the all-inclusive nature of this Cochrane wedding venue made the entire weekend feel seamless and relaxed. Its old world charm and unmistakable character added warmth to every moment.
With forested mountain views, rustic warmth, and a quiet kind of beauty that invites you to slow down and stay awhile, it became the space where two families gathered, connected, and began something new together, surrounded by nature and grounded in the Rockies.
But before the wedding, before the river, before the vows, there was a dirt bike event in California.

How It All Began
Some love stories start in coffee shops. Theirs started in the dust.
Amanda and Kyle met at a dirt bike event called Babes in the Dirt in California. They were both helping lead rides when they caught each other’s eye. The interaction was brief, but neither of them forgot it.
Kyle was immediately intrigued. Even after only a short conversation, he found himself thinking about her long after the event ended. Amanda felt it too. There was something about him that felt steady and special, something she was instantly drawn to.
What began as a moment between rides slowly turned into something neither of them could ignore. Calls turned into visits, and visits turned into long stretches of distance.
For the first half of their relationship, they lived in two different countries. Long distance was not easy, but it made one thing clear. They wanted to build a life together.
Thankfully, Kyle loves Canada. With Amanda from Canada and Kyle from the United States, their relationship has always blended worlds and dogs. Four furbabies, countless camping trips, and a shared love for being outside. Saying yes to each other meant saying yes to a life that felt adventurous, grounded, and entirely their own.
Built on Adventure | A Crossing at Ghost River Elopement
If you ask them what defines their relationship, the answer is simple. Adventure.
From the very beginning, they have chosen to experience life side by side. Dirt bikes, snowboards, paddle boards, mountain trails. If it involves being outside and moving forward together, they are in. One of their most memorable days was their engagement hike in minus thirty degree weather. While most people would have turned back, they leaned in. That has always been their way.
Their proposal carried that same spirit. After an early Valentine’s dinner at a cozy Italian restaurant, with a deer quietly standing just outside the window, they decided to head to Elbow Falls despite the cold. In -25 weather, Kyle knelt near the river to ask her to marry him. Amanda, in the moment, was mostly wondering why he was not wearing gloves. He was trying to get the ring out. They celebrated by tossing snow chunks off the falls and laughing so hard they forgot to take a photo.
Even their song feels like an extension of who they are. The first time Kyle visited Amanda in Canada, they were snowboarding in Revelstoke when Lovely Day by Bill Withers came on. Without thinking, they both started singing along. It became theirs, a soundtrack to a relationship that has always felt steady and bright.
For all the adrenaline, there is a softer rhythm too. Slow mornings with their dogs. Kyle letting their smallest pup sneak under the blankets, leaving only the dog’s head and his size thirteen feet hanging off the end of the bed. It is ridiculous, hilarious, and completely them.
Travelling together is one of their favourite ways to connect. A recent trip to a secluded lake in British Columbia with their dogs included biking, paddleboarding, and finding their own private beach. They even managed to get a large trailer into the smallest hidden spot like a perfect team. With unlimited money and a free day, you would likely find them dirt biking in Switzerland, snowboarding in Japan, or planning a bike trip through Iceland.
Their relationship has always been about saying yes. To movement. To challenge. To joy. To each other.
Cochrane Wedding Venues for the Adventurous at Heart
Among Cochrane wedding venues, The Crossing at Ghost River stands out for couples who crave nature, intimacy, and room to make the day their own.
Amanda and Kyle’s wedding unfolded exactly as they envisioned it, intentional, joy filled, and completely true to who they are.
Their ceremony took place down by the river with only a small handful of their closest family and friends. Every guest was chosen with care. They wanted people who would bring lightness and genuine joy into the space, and that intention could be felt in every moment.
Their four dogs made up the sweetest wedding party. The three boys wore tiny suits, and the lone girl wore a tutu that stole the show. They had full roam during the ceremony, wandering freely and adding personality and charm in a way that felt perfectly fitting.
In a full circle nod to how they first met, they brought their dirt bikes along. After family photos and a champagne pop, we headed into the woods for portraits of them riding side by side, playful and completely in their element. Their brothers helped load and unload, turning it into a shared family adventure rather than just a photo opportunity.
After portraits in woods, we returned to the river to cool off, laughing and playing in the water as the summer heat settled in. It felt effortless and unscripted.
The evening ended with an intimate dinner shared with family. The food was exceptional, the atmosphere relaxed, and the entire day felt less like an event and more like an experience.
Choosing this Cochrane wedding venue felt natural. It reflected their life together, adventurous, grounded, and built on doing things their own way.
Four Dogs and a Riverfront “I Do”
Nothing speaks louder than a real love story. After their experience, Amanda and Kyle shared:
Kyle - "Krystal at fly free weddings is the real deal . She just shot my wedding last weekend and was polite and professional from start to finish . Great pleasure to work with . She knew exactly what looks good and what doesn't look good . Trust her process and guarantee you will be happy with her work . After the ceremony and family photos , we went off-roading in my truck for some forest dirtbike photos , and she nailed it . We will definitely be reaching out to her for future photo shoots.
