What to bring to an Engagement Shoot

You’ve booked your engagement photo session, picked your photographer and read our blog on how to prepare for your engagement session. But are you forgetting anything? Do you want a certain feel or theme in your engagement photos? Have you forgotten an element to make your pictures perfect? We have some engagement session tips for you.

Pets

I whole heartedly believe that your pet is a part of the family and they are more then welcome to join your engagement session. We've had a handful of experiences with furry family members joining in on the engagement photo fun! We have photographed dogs, cats, bunnies and horses (just to name a few).

Hot Coco anyone?

Cute mugs for engagement sessions are extremely popular right now. You can have a mug that says, “Does this ring make me look engaged?”, “I said yes!”, or anything else you’d like. You can also have your wedding date printed on your mugs for this cherished memory or to use as a “save the date”. Don’t forget to bring something warm to drink for your mug such as, coffee, tea or hot cocoa.

Save the Date signs

If you are going to be using your photos for your save the date cards, then don’t forget to bring your signage with your wedding date on it (double check that the information on your sign is correct). You don’t only have to have a sign with your wedding date, you can use a sign that says, “My humans are getting married!” “My Mommy and Daddy are getting married!” “Mr. and Mrs.” Whatever cute sign you would like, we’ll photograph for you.

Any fun props or things that represent the two of you

It is always fun to bring your personality, as a couple, into your session by adding something you like to do together. But sometimes it can be difficult to pinpoint an activity that you both agree on. We have a few awesome engagement photoshoot ideas for you! For Winter sessions maybe, you enjoy snowshoeing, sledding, or ice skating together. For Summer, maybe you enjoy sports and could bring a ball and mitt, a picnic, board games, etc.

Comfortable shoes

As an experienced adventure elopement photographer let me tell you at times you can be hiking or doing a lot of walking. If you want cute shoes in your engagement photos bring a pair of comfy shoes to walk in. Once we get to the destination, you can change into your cute shoes, but trust me you do not want to walk or hike in cute shoes. They can be uncomfortable, and we also don’t want to ruin your cute shoes for your engagement photos.

2 Outfits

When deciding what to wear for an engagement session, you will need one fancy outfit and one comfy or casual outfit. This will give you some variety in your final photos. If your fancier outfit is more on the uncomfortable side, you do not want to be in that outfit for to long. Plus, it shows if you are not comfortable in your pictures, so it is super important to have a comfy/casual option to change into.

Your ring!

This may sound silly, but do not forget to bring your engagement ring to your photo session. With all the planning and prepping that goes into engagement and wedding planning, rings do get forgotten at times. I also highly recommend getting your ring cleaned before your session (check out how to prepare for engagement session blog for more info).
