There’s something magical about the idea of getting married surrounded by mountains, where the noise of everyday life fades away and the only thing that matters is the person standing beside you. Ever since moving to the Rockies, Ollie had imagined what it would feel like to say her vows against that breathtaking backdrop. What started as a dream of a simple mountain ceremony gradually became something even more meaningful: an entire day dedicated to adventure, laughter, and celebrating the life she and John are building together. For a couple who feel most at home outdoors, the mountains were a natural choice. Whether they're snowboarding, exploring new places, or spending time in nature, adventure has always been part of their connection. They each bring their own personalities and interests into the relationship, but it's their shared appreciation for the outdoors that makes the idea of a secluded mountain wedding feel so fitting. Crowsnest Pass offered the kind of setting they had been dreaming of, with its rugged peaks, peaceful surroundings, and endless opportunities to make the day their own.

Imagine slipping into a wedding dress with the mountains stretching out around you, knowing you're about to marry your favourite person. Or looking across the landscape at the person you love and realizing that, by the end of the day, you'll get to call them your wife. For Ollie and John, those are the moments worth celebrating. Not a perfectly planned production, but the happiness of being together, sharing an adventure, and beginning married life in a place that already holds so much meaning. Their dream wedding isn't about following traditions or impressing a crowd. It's about creating a day that feels like them, surrounded by natural beauty and the people closest to their hearts. Years from now, they want to look back at their crowsnest pass photography and remember more than the incredible mountain views. They want to remember how it felt to be there, the laughter they shared, the excitement of the day, and the simple joy of choosing each other.

The Adventure Before “I Do”

Ollie and John met on Tinder on October 3rd, also known as Mean Girls Day, after John had swiped right a month earlier. On her way home from a backcountry camping trip, Ollie spotted his cute grin and a photo of him carrying his snowboard through a whiteout. After a week of chatting, she drove to Lake Louise to meet him, and their story began. Their relationship is filled with laughter, adventure, and little ways of caring for each other. Ollie loves how John brings calm to her worries, while John admires her kindness, determination, and daily encouragement. Their yearly snowboarding trips to Lake Louise include a favourite secluded spot where they pause to enjoy the snow and quiet time together. During their fifth anniversary trip to Cabo, John carried a ring for a week and a half before proposing in their room ahead of a sunset cruise. The temporary ring became something they still laugh about. Once the real ring arrived, they returned to Lake Louise for another proposal and photographs.

Adventure runs deep for Ollie and John, something I got to experience firsthand during their engagement session in Kananaskis. A little rain didn't stop us from having fun and even led to some of their favourite photos beneath adorable umbrellas! When it came time to plan their intimate wedding, I was so thrilled that Ollie trusted me to take her ideas, toss in a few extras, and help create a day they would always remember. Looking back on both experiences, Ollie and John shared:

"We absolutely loved working with Krystal from Fly Free Photography. We had a super small elopement style wedding - and honestly, my biggest fear was planning a wedding, and Krystal took that all off our hands!!! I had a few ideas of what I had wanted, and she was FULL of good suggestions. We worked together in the end to plan the whole day, which ended up being an absolute dream 🤗. We also ended up doing an engagement photo shoot out in Kananaskis - we both loved how the photos turned out - even though we got rained on a little bit. My favourite pictures ended up being the ones of us with the adorable umbrellas 🥰 Krystal was able to capture our wedding day perfectly and was such a delight to work with! It’ll be a day we never forget, and luckily we’ll have our gorgeous images forever 🤍" - Ollie Radulovic

Inspiration for Your Fernie Wedding

There's something so special about those quiet moments before an elopement ceremony, especially when you're surrounded by the beauty of the Rocky Mountains. For Ollie and John, a peaceful wooded path offered the perfect setting for their first look. With towering trees and mountain peaks in the distance, they had a chance to slow down, take everything in, and enjoy seeing each other before saying "I do." I always love capturing these moments because they're filled with so much genuine emotion. There's no need for anything elaborate, just two people sharing a moment together before one of the biggest adventures of their lives. Even the soft blue tones of John's attire and his delicate floral boutonnière complemented the natural beauty surrounding them. Both floral pieces came from my Wedding Flower Rental Packages in Calgary, which offer couples a beautiful way to incorporate flowers into their celebration without the need for traditional fresh florals. I love being able to help couples bring their vision together with thoughtful little details like these!

Even the soft blue tones of John's attire and his delicate floral boutonnière complemented the natural beauty surrounding them. Every little detail felt perfectly suited to their relaxed mountain wedding. Imagine standing beside a peaceful mountain lake, surrounded by breathtaking scenery and the people who mean the most to you. That was the setting Ollie and John chose for their intimate ceremony, and it couldn't have been more beautiful. One of my favourite details was the handmade triangular wooden arch that John built himself. Decorated with flowers and greenery, it framed the lake perfectly and added such a personal touch to their ceremony. With vow books in hand and the mountains stretching out behind them, they exchanged heartfelt promises and began their next adventure together. And of course, we couldn't forget their furry family members! Their beloved dogs were part of the celebration, joining everything from the morning preparations at the cabin to family portraits beneath the floral arch. I always love when couples include their pets because they're such an important part of their story, and it makes the day feel even more like them.

After the ceremony, we spent some time celebrating with their loved ones and capturing beautiful memories beside the lake. The soft greens and blues of the guests' dresses looked gorgeous against the surrounding water, wildflowers, and mountain scenery. But knowing Ollie and John's love for adventure, I knew we couldn't stay in one place for too long! We made our way to a nearby waterfall, where a little wooden bridge and rushing water created the perfect backdrop for more wedding portraits. Between stolen kisses, laughter, and a few quiet moments away from the excitement, we captured some of my favourite memories from their day. That's one of the things I love most about adventure weddings. You aren't limited to one location or a traditional timeline. You can explore, embrace the unexpected, and create memories in places that mean something to you.

As the afternoon light softened, we continued our adventure into an open meadow surrounded by golden grasses and sweeping mountain views. And let me tell you, the lighting was absolutely dreamy! Ollie and John shared quiet embraces, plenty of laughter, and even a playful lift that perfectly captured their personalities. We also brought out some adorable "Just Eloped" signs for a few celebratory photos. These are the moments I love photographing most. The ones where couples forget about the camera, relax, and simply enjoy being together. Your wedding day doesn't need to follow every tradition to be romantic or meaningful. Sometimes, it's the spontaneous little moments that become your favourite memories.

A Fernie photographer captures a tender moment as a groom kisses his bride on the cheek while embracing her beside a cascading waterfall, with the bride holding a romantic bouquet of white and blush pink flowers.

Now, what better way to end a mountain wedding adventure than with a cozy sunset picnic? As the sky turned beautiful shades of pink and peach, we settled into the golden grasses with a checked blanket, fresh bread, charcuterie, and a few pretty floral touches. It was such a simple but beautiful way for Ollie and John to enjoy their first evening as newlyweds. No elaborate reception or packed dance floor needed. Just delicious food, breathtaking mountain views, and time to soak in that just-married feeling. I love helping couples incorporate little experiences like this into their wedding day because they create space to slow down and actually enjoy the celebration. And after a day filled with exploring the Rockies, this intimate picnic was the perfect ending. When I think back on Ollie and John's wedding, what stands out most isn't just the breathtaking scenery. It's how naturally their personalities and love for adventure became part of every moment. It was about spending an unforgettable day together in a place they love.
