From “dat ass” to building fences for their pup and cracking a cold drink after a long day, their love is equal parts playful, thoughtful, and deeply intentional. When it came time to choose their venue, there was no second guessing. Ashley and Ethan found a place that reflected their story perfectly at this beautiful Strathmore Farm wedding. With its rustic charm, wide open fields, and relaxed atmosphere, it created the perfect backdrop for a day that felt clean and classy, yet effortlessly country and fun, a balance that mirrored them perfectly.

Their vision for the day was simple but intentional. One meaningful ceremony location surrounded by scenery that feels like home. A place where they could slow down, be present, take it all in, celebrate alongside the people who matter most, and step into a forever that already feels so certain.

This feeling is what I truly want all my couples to experience. If we haven't met, hey, I'm Krystal, the owner and lead photographer of Fly Free Photography and I'm so glad you are here! I co-create intentional, meaningful days with my couples that truly represent them and if you are looking for a wedding photographer or videographer, I'd love to chat with you more. Until then, read on about this romantic and rustic farm wedding I was blessed to be a part of.

The Heart of It All

What started as a year of online conversations turned into something neither of them saw coming. Even with distance, farm roots, and a missed chance while Ethan was away in the Yukon, Ashley always had a feeling it would lead somewhere.

Then came their first date, a hockey game where the conversation never stopped, and time didn’t seem to matter. It felt easy, natural, and unexpectedly right. By the end of the night, Ashley and Ethan both knew this was something different.

Since then, their relationship has been built on shared values, effortless connection, and a whole lot of laughter. From joking about a terrible steak on their second date to constantly quoting Deadpool and saying “you're crazy matches my crazy,” their love is equal parts fun, grounded, and genuine.

The Start of Their Forever | Strathmore Farm Wedding

Some stories don’t need anything over the top, just the right moment, the right place, and the right person. For Ashley and Ethan, that moment happened on a hike up Limestone Mountain. Ethan had already planned it all out, even telling Ashley’s parents beforehand. Ring box tucked carefully in his pocket, he spent most of the hike making sure she stayed on the “right” side of him, not letting her walk behind him or too close, all so he wouldn’t give it away.

Halfway up, they stopped for a group photo at one of Ashley’s favourite viewpoints. What she didn’t realize at the time was that the ring box was very clearly visible in the picture, a detail that now feels like such a perfect, unplanned part of the story.

With her sister and nephew there to witness it, and even capture it on video, everything about the moment felt natural and meaningful. At the summit, after asking what background she wanted for a photo, Ethan made his move. And just like that, a simple hike turned into the start of forever. Moments like this don’t just happen, they’re built on everything that came before.

On the kind of love that shows up in the hardest seasons, like when Ashley lost her dad and Ethan was there through it all, offering steady support and making sure she never felt alone. And in the everyday moments too, the ones that seem small but mean everything. From Ethan admiring her drive and how deeply she cares for the people in her life, to Ashley noticing the way he always shows up for her, whether it’s cheering her up after a long day, bringing home her favourite drink, or building a fence so Bee could run free. It’s balance that made this moment, and everything leading up to it, feel so undeniably right.

What a Wedding Day Looks Like at a Strathmore Wedding Venue

An October wedding just outside Strathmore set the scene for a day that felt both grounded and unforgettable. Held on private property, the ceremony was surrounded by stunning fall colours, with water on either side creating the most beautiful reflections. The weather stayed true to the season, overcast with a light sprinkle during the ceremony before clearing just in time to continue the celebration.

Surrounded by close friends, family, and a supportive wedding party, the day felt full of warmth and energy. Their sweet pup Bee, a Rottweiler and Golden Retriever cross, stole hearts in her floral collar while the morning started relaxed, getting ready at the house while the guys played pool, setting the tone for an easy, enjoyable day.

Photos took place across meaningful locations, from the old field well and a big grandfather tree on the property to the driveway lined with fall colour. They also visited Ethan’s family farm, capturing moments in front of a tractor that once belonged to Ashley’s dad, along with what remains of the barn, adding a layer of history and sentiment to the day. A bit of skeet shooting out back brought out their personalities and made for some fun, unique moments.

The celebration continued at the Rockyford Community Hall, where the energy carried on despite the weather turning cold, windy, and rainy outside. Inside, it was all warmth, laughter, and a packed dance floor. Earlier in the day, during the ceremony, their cousins added an extra layer of fun by handing out shots as Ashley and Ethan made their entrance, a moment that perfectly reflected how joyful, laid back, and personality filled the entire day truly was.
