An Intimate Rocky Mountain Elopement

Trust me when I say Matthew and Kayla's Kananaskis wedding was EPIC! When we had our "get to know you" call, they didn't know what exactly to do for their wedding but knew they wanted an adventure. They were a completely open book, which I LOVE!! So, I went to work and scouted out some different locations and sent them some ideas. As a Calgary wedding photographer, I make sure to research what we could do to make sure their day was special and best use their time frame. They were great and literally open to anything that involved the mountains! If they had more room they probably would have bought out paddle boards and paddle boarded in their wedding attire! Haha!

Oh Hey! If you are new here, let me jump in for a quick moment and say Hiii ! I'm Krystal, owner of Fly Free Photography and I'm SO excited to have you in my little corner of the interwebs! As Calgary wedding photographers I love helping couples plan days that are truly unique to them, not matter what that might look like. If you have an epic idea in mind for a shoot, I would love to chat with you about it more!

Rocky Mountain Elopement

After lots of back a forth, we had come up with the perfect adventure for these two! Starting off with a first look behind their Airbnb out in Deadman's Flats, followed by a beautiful little ceremony at a secluded lake in the mountains. The boho mountain shaped backdrop with pink and white florals was perfect! Kayla looked stunning in her mermaid gown and I absolutely loved Matt's Converse sneakers with his black suit! Such a fun combo! Their close family and friends ended up coming out to support them, there ended up being about 10 people there, which was super intimate and cute! Random side note, but if you are looking for a super fun and adventurous officiant, you need to check out Cole. We absolute could not say enough awesomeness about him and LOVE working with him!

Mountain Wedding

After that we took off for a hike and they were troopers. We hiked to the top of this mountain and it was stunning! The forecast called for rain all day! I told Kayla that I had umbrellas just incase and she said that she was game, either way. It actually ended up snowing a little bit the night before in Kananaskis so there was some snow on the trail and at the top which made things a bit more mucky, but they did not let any of that stop them! The weather was absolutely perfect and could not have been better! They also were super prepared with Gatorade and pizza to snack on at the top. It was so much fun!

Kananaskis Wedding

Fun fact, I had planned out a day to go and hike this location myself to scout out the spots & these two had asked if I had any recommendations for hikes... So, we ended up hanging out with them for the full day before their wedding, as they joined us on the scouting adventure to figure out how they wanted their Rocky Mountain elopement to look. Needless to say, they are an amazing couple and I am so excited to see them again in the future. I love being able to connect with all of our couples and form friendships with each one of them!
