Today, Dalal, owner of Sweets of Paradise bakery, took time to answer your frequently asked questions about wedding cake and sharing some 2021 wedding cake trends! We couldn't be happier to have her on the Fly Free Photography blog.
How far in advance should we book?
Give yourself time. Try to book at least 6 months in advance.
Do you offer cake testing?
Yes, we do! We can create a cake tasting kit for couples to buy so they can taste some of our flavors and decide together.
How do we decide how much cake to order? Tiers? Slices?
While not everyone will have dessert, some may want more. It is good to order for at least 80% of your guest count. It is better to have leftovers than to have guests asking for dessert after it is all gone!

Unique wedding desserts are almost as popular as wedding cake right now. There are so many new desserts appearing on a regular basis. A few that have started to make their way into weddings are donuts and cakesicles!
Wedding Cakes and/or a Dessert Table
Both can be amazingly beautiful, but it is a personal choice that goes with the style of your wedding. Cost wise, they can be very similar. Cake can be made into a stunning and delicious show piece while dessert table gives your guest choices.
Booking Sweets of Paradise as Your Calgary Wedding Cake Bakery
With so many bakers in the market, it is important to know that your baker is operating safely. You need to take into account that you are likely feeding a large number of people. This is where AHS certification is key! To be AHS certified, you need a food handling course which means that your caterer or baker knows how to handle your foods safely, so you and your guests do not get sick.
At Sweets of Paradise, I work out of a commercial kitchen in my home which is both licensed by the city as well as inspected, approved, and certified by Alberta health.
